Belephant pt1

once upon a time, there lived a baby elephant, a lovable creature, who was indeed loved by all around him (or at least he thought he was). unfortunately, all the love he received had spoiled him; he has gotten accustomed to being cared for all the time, and he thought it was his right for him to be the center of the attention at all times. It wasn’t his fault, however. he was loved because he was a sweet fellow; he cared for others more than he cared for himself. and that quality of him made him who he was; a lovable elephant. that is why he was so shocked when he discovered someone who didn’t care for him at all.

he could accept the fact that he was separated from the family. though he missed them very much, after all, he was a grown elephant; he was confident that he could take care of himself pretty well. he was also okay with the bald man who had put a wall of wires around him. it wasn’t the most spacious environment he could ask for, but at least the man gave him free food. free is always good.

what he could not understand was how he was treated by this one animal inside the wire fence. she was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen. she had long legs; long, lean neck; and (once again) long, thick eye lashes. she had fluffy brown feathers that covered her body, just like the color of her eyes. she walked with the air of a queen; very elegant, yet with a ton of charisma. every step she took with her long, lean legs, the tip of her feathery tail fluttered a little, and it was beautiful in his eyes. but she would rarely even talk to him.

as he slowly adjusted to the life inside the walls, a routine naturally developed around the feeding and the visitation times. he would take a nap and go eat for 3,4 hours, when the bald man brought in good quality straw and bananas (which for some very odd reason, he couldn’t find anywhere inside the fence). then he would take a walk, (secretly, to see the tall bird) but he switched off a couple of different routes so it wouldn’t get boring. then the time will come when the bald man make a space in the wiry wall for a noisy creature to come in, with several humans riding on its back. it would growl like a lion, only many times louder, whenever it sprinted off somewhere, following the bald area through the field. he never bothered to go look, cuz he had a hard time catching up with them.

one day, he was on his walk and he saw the beauty, and greeted as he normally did. this time she responded with a nod and a expression something resembled a smile. that made his day because that was the 11th time she had even reacted to his greeting in 3 weeks. only a day before, she hadn’t even looked at him. and he was depressed for the rest of the day. now he was happy as can be. he noticed these sudden changes and was worried for a second if was going to develop a bipolar disorder, but soon forgot about it because he wanted to enjoy the happiness while it lasted. it took some courage, but he offered her a sweet berry he had saved from the previous meal. she looked at him funny, but accepted. excited at the fact that she received his gift, he hurried away after saying a short bye, before anything can go wrong. the smooth encounter that day lingered in the back of his mind and made him grin every once in a while, like someone who was high.
